"Starry Starry Night"

Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.

Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will.

*swoons*

That's a great word. *swoons*
It's much better than "fainting" or "passing out" or "dropping in an unconscious heap." Those words just don't have the romantic flavor that "swooning" does.
And what better word to apply when listening to James sing?
*swoons*
Kat, I owe you one. Or maybe two.

So I'm listening to a cd that is just chock full of culture. All sorts of culture. And it's educational, too. *nods emphatically* It's helping me with my Spanish. Right, Kat? *grin*

I have a new mattress. It's heavenly, but tall. Now I'm an extra six to eight inches off the ground, and you can tell. I sit on my bed and my feet don't touch the ground. It's a little odd, since that hasn't happened since I was so high. *holds her hand a certain height above the ground*

I don't know about you, but I really like ginger ale. I mean, REALLY. That and hot tea. Give me ginger ale and a stash of good hot tea, and I will never ask for another drink of anything else. Why doesn't the West Coast recognize the wonderful "irreplaceability" of ginger ale? But no! We have to wallow in Pepsi and root beer. Bah. Sometimes I despair for the human race.

Next time you see me, remind me to clear my library card. There are a dozen-plus books, cds, and other assorted media that await me, and I can't get to them because of a trifling eleven dollars. What is that in the light of hours and hours of enjoyment? Bah. I really need to pay it off.

Oversized jackets are fun. Instead of wearing them, you get wrapped in them. And that's more fun than merely wearing something.

The Singperspiration is Saturday. And the Youth Choir isn't singing. We've been cheated!! Think of all the people who will be deprived of hearing us! Think of the fun we would have singing! But no, we have to sit there and listen to everyone else sing, and we won't be singing, and I'm going to cry just thinking about it, and we won't be able to do anything, we'll just sit there and stare at our hands, wishing we were singing, but we won't be singing, and-----
Yeah. So, we're not singing. *sigh*

C'est la vie.

Now I've depressed myself.
I'm going home to wallow in culture.

Listen to Me

Say what they want to hear
Plaster a smile on your face
Ask the right questions
Give the right answers
Don't disturb their world
With problems from yours
Just keep grinning
And divert the conversation
Turn it back to them
Let them deal with their issues
Keep yours to yourself
Bury your emotions
Blink back the tears
Keep it all deep inside
Don't let it poke its nasty head out
Don't bother the nice people
They're too busy
Just smile real big
And don't let them in
Because you wouldn't know
What to say in the first place
And you hate to cry
Remember that
Don't say a word
Lips sealed tight
Pinched into a smile
Nod and agree
Don't cause ripples
Because ripples start tsunamis
Everything escalates
Remember that
And don't forget
To make eye contact
But guard your eyes
And don't shrug
Offer evasive statement
They feel better about those
Don't pin down your feelings
But especially not theirs!
Dear me, no
That makes them defensive
And then they look to you
They might look too hard
And if you don't have all the shields up
They might slip in
And that wouldn't do at all, my dear
Just listen to me
Smile sweetly
Focus on them
What they want you to know
Divert
Evade
Seal
Silence
Guard
Because you're perfectly fine
Doing great, in fact
Always remember that

Hola!

Me llamo es Bethany. Que tal?

Okay, so I'm enjoying Spanish. *shrugs* It's fun. I like it.
Today after class I went with mi padre to get a nuevo mattress. It's thick and has a pillow top. It gets delivered first thing manana. So tomorrow noche I will have a nuevo bed. Of course, this means getting my room in some semblance of order so mi madre doesn't completely have a conniption.
Speaking of her, she's doing better, in case you were wondering.
I had a whole bunch of things to say earlier today, but they've all completely fled from my mind. *shrugs* Oh, well. Maybe later.
Oh, I talked to Ben for about an hour today. That was fun. Then I ran into Derek, said hi to Matt, and... did some other things. I forget, exactly.

Hasta pronto, chicos!

Here I am at College again...

... And I love it.

Art History was great. Erik was great. He asked us three questions for our first "assignment." A) What is Art? B) What is Art for? C) Why are you taking this class.
Since I consider writing a form of art, I answered questions A and B like I would questions about writing. I think it may have sounded a little sappy. *shrugs* And for Question C, I wrote some stuff about my friends raving about the class and the teacher, that the class filled some requirement or other, and that I was interested in Rennaisance art.

Then I had an hour break, and met up with one of my friends from last semester.

Then came Speech. Kat, I am praying that you get that class. It would be so much fun! McReynolds seems to be a great teacher. He's very candid and upfront. Also, Angie is in that class, which makes me happy.

Spanish was fun. Profesora VillaGomez is tiny, but seems to be a good teacher. I liked her, anyway.

So here I am this morning. It's 0915, and I'm sitting next to Richard and Hannah. All three of us have 0930 classes, and Richard and I are in the six-hundreds, Hannah is in the seven-hundred. I gave Richard the nickel tour. We have a great campus. It's so much fun to walk around.

And as it is edging closer and closer to 0930, I'm going to end this.
BTW, look really hard at Sarah next time you see her. You might notice something new. *Grin*

School and peppermint tea and Michael Ball and blogs and permits and...

*deep contented sigh*
School has started. I have had one class already: Art History 2 with Erik Shearer. He seems like a very cool guy.
I am glad that school has started, for several reasons: 1) I have a schedule again. 2) I'm on my own again. 3) I get to see my friends again. 4) I have internet again. *grin* 5) I get to learn things again. 6) I just like being here.
I like the college because I can roam around without people worrying about me. I find it strangely relaxing.
Yes, Kat, I know you're tired of hearing me harp on this subject, but bear with me for a week or so and then I'll probably hate it as much as you do. *grin*

I don't know if you know this, but if you're ever feeling blue, or down in the dumps or depressed, or whatever you want to call it, a big mug of Peppmint tea will do wonders for you. I mean it.

I listened to Michael Ball last night. Songs from his Christmas album and then from Les Mis. *sigh* His voice, to borrow a phrase from a previous generation, sends me! If you've never heard the man sing, you're really missing out.

I've noticed that this blog of mine has become a posting sight for my quiz results. Ah, well. Quizzes are fun, and the blog is fun, so why shouldn't the two go together. Now I'm at school, I'll be able to make real posts more frequently.
(Note: I said I would be ABLE to, not that I would. *grin*)

I need to go driving some time. I've had my permit for a month and haven't done anything with it. I meant to on Monday, but it just didn't happen. Oh, well.

There's some things that need to be done before my next class--Speech, with Angie and Kathey!!!!!!!--so thus endeth this post.

Have a fantabulous day, everyone. I am!!

Your wings are BROKEN and tattered. You are
an angelic spirit who has fallen from grace for
one reason or another - possibly, you made one
tragic mistake that cost you everything. Or
maybe you were blamed for a crime you didn't
commit. In any case, you are faithless and
joyless. You find no happiness, love, or
acceptance in your love or in yourself. Most
days are a burden and you wonder when the
hurting will end. Sweet, beautiful and
sorrowful, you paint a tragic and touching

Those that do know you are likely to love you

You are hard on yourself and self-critical or

Schubert was singing in a choir as
a boy, but later quit to help his father out as
a teacher. He grew tired of the classroom, and
decided to become an independent composer. He
since lived in poverty. An introvert, he only
had few true friends who helped him out
financially. Schubert was most famous for his
"songs" and he established the German
Lied as a new form of art. The disease that
caused his death at age 32 is still the subject
of debate. Some think he died of syphillis,
some suggest he died of typhoid fever.

*grins* Hey, it works for me.

I have come to a realization.
Well, actually, I came to it a long time ago, but it was confirmed for the seventeen bajillionth time today.
I'm not a people person.
By that, I don't mean that I don't LIKE people. I do. There are some that I like very much. But I don't draw energy from being around people. My darling sister, on the other hand, does. She can go all day, all night, and the day afterward with people and still have energy to spare. She gets it from interaction. I don't. The more I'm around people, especially high-energy people, the more I need a break. Some people understand that, like Em and Dan. When I'm with Dan, we can just sit without talking and both of us are cool. Some people don't understand, and that's okay. Because, to be perfectly honest, I don't always understand the people that draw their energy from social interactions.
So, if you ever feel slighted because I don't, or can't, carry on a lengthy conversation with you, particularly at night after a weekend just chock FULL of people, it's not personal, I promise. It's just that I need some time to recharge and get some of my energy back. My energy rebuilds with quiet and music and books and environments that I control.
I really love all you guys, but there are times when I just need some space.

I don't know why I felt the need to post that. *shrugs*

Another realization.
I love writing.
I especially love the feeling of coming to the end of a story and everything is just fitting together perfectly. All the characters are behaving, the secondaries have actual personalities, the conflict is just right.... *sighs* It's great.
The only downside is... the story IS coming to an end. Then I won't get to work on it. Unless I write in an epilogue that allows for a sequel. That would be pretty cool. *grin*
To all of you who don't know what it's like to write... Try it some time. Write a story, or a bit of a story, or a poem, or some freeverse. You never know: you might like it.
And then another writer would be born, and God knows we can never have too many of those.

She looks to the skies
Her feet are like lead
Broken dreams and shattered hopes
Weigh her down
Fragile wings
Doomed to fail
Daring to try
Tender courage
Gentle bravery
A step closer to the edge
Longing to soar
To stretch her wings
Thick black clouds
Torrential rains
Daunt her future
Flood her past
Wash away the present
She latches onto stronger flights
Borne aloft by greater dreams
Air fresh on her face
Fuels the fire
Rebuilds the hope
Salvages the dream
She is swept away in a rushing current
Caught up in rivers of wind
Streams of air
She breathes renewal
Inhales courage
Soaks up fresh strength
Stretches her fragile wings
Clings to her promise
Accepts failure
Embraces success
Drops the ballast
Freely rides the storm
Soars above the clouds
Stretches beyond imagination
Fades beyond sight
At long last
She flies with her own wings

Who is Josh Hartnett?

Ha!
and
Bah!

Yeah. So. Explanation, I know, I know.

Today is Tuesday, in case you didn't check the little date thingy over in the corner. I have had an interesting day.

On the "Ha!" side:
I went for a walk. That was great fun. Then I went to school for a little while and talked to Bro. Exum, subbed for Sis. Foux for half an hour, and said hi to everyone who needed saying hi to. Then Mom and I went and filled up the tank, went to Target (which reminds me: have loads of fun in SoCal, Amanda!!!), got a Jamba Juice (Mango-a-go-go: delicious!!), stopped by the college and got books for Speech and Spanish (huzzah!), checked my Physics lab grade (A, I'm so happy!! Kathey, would have checked yours, but I don't know the digits. Stupid classroom was locked so I couldn't get the labs), dropped off yesterday's overdue books off at the library, went to the bank (got money and deposited a check), and had a great time with my Mommy.
That has to be one of the longest sentence I've written in a rather long time. But it was fun.

On the "Bah!" side:
You see the list of stuff up there? It was all done before 1100. I fell asleep at midnight, which is pretty good. I woke up at 0445, after a wonderful dream about going to a Delirious? concert and having excellent seats. I tried for two hours to fall back asleep, but it just wasn't happening. At 0700, I decided to stop trying and got up. That's when I went for my walk.

So I'm running on five hours of sleep and I've been awake since 0500. That doesn't happen very often. I'm still awake, but if I sit for more than ten minutes or so, I won't be for much longer. Oh, well.

That's the first half of my day. I'll let you know how the second half goes. Hope you all are having a wonderful day.

So. I had weird dreams last night. I will spare you the details, since they weren't very nice. But I apparently talked in my sleep last night.
Me: Hey!
Kayla: What?
Me: Go eat a sycamore tree!
Kayla: A what?!
Me: And a dictionary!
When she informed me of this, I told her that I was trying to get her to eat her words. *shrugs*

Sunday school was fun, but I wouldn't recommend trying to teach a class full of bouncy 5-7 year-olds on four hours of sleep and some sugar. It doesn't always work. This time it did, but it usually doesn't.

Derek came to church last night, then went to INO with us. That was unusually fun. When I tell you that I was there for 4 hours without kicking up a fuss or even getting bored, you'll see what I mean. *grin*

I have permission from Memaw to visit her when I go on walks. That makes me very happy. Any suggestions about goodies to bake that I could take with me sometime? Preferrably ones that wouldn't get squished in a bag or backpack.

The girls are going to school tomorrow. Well, the three younger ones are. Chvana is out of school, much to her delight. *Grin* Poor Keith Evans showed up today, thinking there was school. Tsk tsk.

Well, I'm off to eat cheese, crackers, and drink Pepsi Blue. We were given a case of the stuff and since I'm the only one who likes it, I get it all to myself.

Have a grand evening, all.

Happy New Year, Everyone.
2004 is officially here. And I don't have a *shpink*-a-day calander. That is just the ultimate tragedy.
The Robertson girls are here and look to be staying another two weeks or so. We shall have loads of fun.
It's great, because they think I'm funny. *grin*
And as such is the case, I don't have a lot of time to talk on this thing right now.
Welcome Kristina to the ranks of the blogs.
I have been staying up WAY too late and sleeping in WAY too late. I have to do something to break this cycle. Bah. I even tried getting up, but I feel really, really... just plain UGH in the mornings.
We all went over to Amanda's last night, and I had too much fun. Thank you, dearest doll, for inviting us. There was this mad scramble for food as we tried to find a place that was open. Can you believe it? Everyone closes at stinking TEN pm on New Year's Eve. What's up with that? *grumble* 'S'funny, I seem to recall this happening to me last year, too. Weeyerd.
It occurs to me that I still don't know what my grade is in Physics Lab. At the end of the semester, the grade report showed an A-, I think. But he had only graded half the labs. Consequently, I have no idea what to expect. I don't know if not knowing is a good thing or a bad thing.
I just learned last night that Bro. Exum is off to Israel in a few weeks. Sounds interesting and I will post details as I learn them. Strange, I didn't learn this from HIM. I was talking to Sis. Leport about something he hadn't said a week or so ago and she said he was distracted with his trip. First I had heard about it. I hope he has a jolly fun time.
Air hockey has been revived in our house. *holds aching head* Anybody got ibu profen?
My thoughts are rather scattered right now, so I think I'm going to end this before I wind up saying something I didn't intend to say.
Loves to everyone.

--Me--
