Into the West
"Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see all of your fears will pass away. Safe in my arms, you're only sleeping..." ~Into the West, LotR

Well, if nothing else, all my clothes are clean.
And folded.
Or hung up.

That's something, I suppose.

My Room

At the end of the school year, around Finals time, when I had NO spare time whatsoever, my room started to look pretty bad. I told my mother that I would clean it up when Finals were over and I actually had some time to do it.
The end of summer is rapidly approaching and I am forced to confess that I did not clean my room. It just got worse and worse. I think I started on it sometime around the end of June, but other than that....
The good news is that I've been working on it all day today.
The bad news is that unless you saw it before, you can't tell that I've made any progress whatsoever.
*Sigh*
And thus continueth the battle....

Rest Easy

I am not a bold man
Even though I wanna be
I am just a dreamer
With a timid history
Scared of confrontation
I fume all through the night
The world has its hold on me
And I just want to fly
The sky, the sky
Is open wide
But I can't fly
'Til I step aside

Rest easy
Have no fear
I love you perfectly
And perfect loves casts out fear
I'll take your burdens
You take My grace
Rest easy
In My embrace
--AA--

It was a day

I woke up this morning, realizing I had overslept. I hate that. I had exactly fifteen minutes to get to work. With my daddy's help (he drove), I managed to get there in seventeen minutes. And our new manager showed up today. He seems really nice and he possesses a quality that makes me want to like him right away: he's our permanent manager.

Kathey, you were right: Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Butterfingers from ColdStone is truly, truly excellent. I'll have to get it again some time.

This is Day 7 of the SBF Campaign. I must say it's going along nicely. *is proud of herself*

I'm going to Camp Meeting AND Sr. Camp. It promises to be lots of fun, but I'm looking forward to five days with nothing to do but go to church. I really need a refreshing right now, and a Spiritual refreshing is as good as it gets, as I'm sure you all know.

I can't get over how good tea is.
If I had to list three of my favorite things, I would say : hot tea, hot shower, and hot popcorn. Probably in that order, but the list will change from time to time. I must be weird for wanting 'hot' during the summer, but then again, I've always been weird.

I don't know what came over me the other day, but I sat up and realized with a sudden clarity that I want to teach Kindergarten at the Academy. I really, really want to. Not right now, of course, but in a few years. I won't make it a career like Sis. Green did, but I definitely want to do it for at least a year.

I have a Jornada again. The screen decided to blow out completely on my old one, and so I have another one. I had forgetten how much I enjoyed that cute little computer. Stan comes up to me and says, "Can I touch it?" I think he wants one again, too. They're nifty little things.

Mommy is sore, but otherwise all right. She and Daddy went on an 'excursion,' I think to the coast. Mom really likes the beach. They'll be gone for a day or two.

I finally got my registration back yesterday. FINALLY. I actually got two letters from the college. One said, "You overpaid, and we owe you 7 dollars. Come get it." The other one said, "You didn't pay enough and you owe us 18 dollars. Come pay us or we won't register you for your last class."
I thought it was funny.

Maybe that's what's wrong with me. I haven't laughed enough lately.
Maybe I'll go listen to Stan Freburg.
And clean my room. I need to do that too.

'Cause my Dad does things like that...

So this morning, Daddy's taking Nathaniel to school, me to work, and Mom to a Dr.'s appointment. We're driving down the road, and we see this big, beautiful golden retriever-type dog loping down the street. He's just kind of wandering around aimlessly, so my Daddy pulls over and gets out, calling the dog over to him. He comes, very obedient, and Dad checks his collar for a number. Well, all the license had was the license number and the county phone number, and the dog looks lost. So Daddy piles him into the car. He called and found the owner, who is at work and lives two miles away. Right about now, we have a tiny Skipper, and even tinier Teddi Bear, and a huge Mickey. It's quite a contrast. He's a very well-behaved, well-trained, good dog. And apparently we have him until this evening. Daddy said, "It's what I would hope someone would do for me if they saw our poodles wandering down the street."

Peppermint Tea

With honey.
Possibly one of the greatest inventions of all time.
Talk about comfort food... drink?

A Mommy Update

For those of you who may not have heard, Mommy had her surgery today to remove the last of the cancer. The doctors say that it went very well. They say that they were able to get it all, and they are "cautiously optimistic" that they will be able to reverse the colostemy (sp?). And since doctors always tell you the worst case possible, I'm sure this means that it's all perfectly all right. Mommy will have chemo until the end of the year, but other than that...
Praise God!
Thanks for your prayers.

May the Fourth be with you

Yesterday was loads of fun. Started out with Sunday School, during which one of our little ones claimed that God had sent the Flood to clean up the earth because "People were littering." We went on to eat animal crackers, which were a big "hit." Then we went to the Sanctuary and got to see Kathey's nifty PowerPoint. After service, Amanda and I drove up to Rhonert Park to support Brook's Youth Group by purchasing fireworks. Then whole bunches of people went to Crane Park in St. Helena. They played baseball, volleyball, ate, and finally, set off lots and lots of fireworks. It was quite a dazzling display. To all that didn't go, I missed you. To all that were there, it was fun, wasn't it?
Michelle and the Brown Kids all wore their Switchfoot T-shirts. Someone took our picture, but I don't know if it will turn out because it was taken at night. But we'll see.
Oh, and by the way: Grandma's here and Brandon's back.

And we're having company for dinner. So I will bid you all adieu for now.
