Into the West

Ever felt like this?

Random Thoughts

Thread your way through life
Taking nothing for granted
Health, friendship, security
Make your memories count
Weave the story of your life
In such a way that you would not
Be ashamed to have the world
Read the pages aloud
On every street corner
Watch your words
Watch your actions
Try to understand where
Others are coming from
Have a hobby or three
But don’t let them distract you
From the truly important
Things in your life
Family, Friends, Faith
Learn from other’s mistakes
You can only make so many
Listen to the elderly
Even if they may not know
A lot about where you’re at
They have a lot of experience
At this game we like to call life
Have a pet or three
Something that’s always glad to see you
When you walk in the door
Tired from work
Or exhausted from school
Be careful where you give your heart
You can never get it all back
Prioritize
You can’t do everything
So don’t get caught up
With the insignificant details
That you won’t remember two days
From now, let alone two years
Get that extra hour of sleep
Don’t worry about the two problems
You left undone in your homework
Skipping class (not chronically
But every now and again)
Is good for the spirit
If not always for the grade
Weigh things in the balances
And consider the cost
Be careful where you go
What you do and say
Eyes are watching you
They may come from
Unexpected places
But they’re always there
You’re somebody’s role model
As much as you may dislike it
Take that into account
Weather the storm
Ride out the waves
Enjoy the rain while you can
Because too much sunshine gets old
Eat some ice cream if you want
Don’t count the carbs every time
Balance your mental health
With your physical health
One isn’t any good without the other
Buy and wear comfortable clothes
Rather than something you don’t want
To impress someone you don’t like
Listen to music, lots and lots of music
But don’t be scared of silence
Expand your horizons
Listen to a bit of country now and then
Honesty is refreshing
Never forget your roots
And those who gave you a boost
Learn to fly with your own wings
But don’t neglect the nest
Write a bit, read a bit
Reflect and contemplate
Learn to let the little annoyances
Brush over you like a feather
Don’t get caught up with the incessant
Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick
Coming from the room next to you
Forgive, forget, and then be friends
If at all possible
A friend earned is sweeter than a friend met
Don’t give up after the first try
Be willing to learn new things
From everyone, everywhere
But don’t be “so opened minded
That your brains fall out”
That does you no good
And don’t neglect your faith
But don’t be “so spiritually minded
That you’re no earthly good”
Remember that you’re here
To help others all you can
Don’t concern yourself too much about the future
The future is built on our todays
And what we do with them
And the big decisions
Will be forced by the little ones
Take time to smell a flower
Or to plant one with a child
Don’t forget the simple pleasures
And don’t ever, ever forget
That two people will always love you:
Me, but even more than me
God.

Pant Wars

Directions: Take a quote. I have chosen Star Wars because it's just so funny! Remove some key word and replace it with "pants." Laugh.

“We’ll be sent to the spice mines of Kessel or smashed into pants!” –C-Threepio

“Actually, Artoo has been known to make pants… from time to time.” –Threepio

“I’m standing here in pants, and you’re having delusions of grandeur.” –Threepio

“I do believe that they think I am some sort of pants.” –Threepio

“You can waste time with your friends when your pants are done.” –Uncle Owen

“Traveling through hyperspace isn’t like dusting pants, boy!” –Han

“You have taken your first step into larger pants.” –Ben

“You’ll find I’m full of pants.” –Luke

“You are pants. It is useless to resist.” –Vader

“… I warn you not to underestimate my pants.” –Luke

“Your pants are your weakness.” –Luke

“Listen, if you were to rescue her, the reward would be… well, more pants than you can imagine.” –Luke
“I don’t know, I can imagine quite a bit.” –Han

“I take pants from just one person: Me!” –Han

“Impossible pants.” –Threepio

“Good. I hate long pants.” –Han

“Well, short pants are better than no pants at all.” –Han

“I am altering the pants. Pray I don’t alter them any further.” –Vader

“Join me and I will complete your pants.” –Vader

“Your pants are complete.” –Vader

“I wish I had your pants.” –Threepio

From Dogbert's Newsletter---Tales of InDuhvidiuals.

A few months back, the people in my office were talking about Mel Gibson's new movie, The Passion of the Christ. One of my coworkers, a young 20 year old secretary, mentioned that she wasn't sure if she was going to go see it because it would be too sad. That's when I jokingly told her that "It's okay; he comes back in the end. I read the Book." At which point she says, "There's a book?"

Black vs. White

"It's called the gray fallacy. One person says white, another says black, and outside observers assume gray is the truth. The assumption of gray is sloppy, lazy thinking. The fact that one person takes a position that is diametrically opposed to the truth does not then skew reality so the truth is no longer the truth. The truth is still the truth."

Incredibly Accurate...

ISFJs are characterized above all by their desire to serve others, their "need to be needed." In extreme cases, this need is so strong that standard give-and-take relationships are deeply unsatisfying to them; however, most ISFJs find more than enough with which to occupy themselves within the framework of a normal life. (Since ISFJs, like all SJs, are very much bound by the prevailing social conventions, their form of "service" is likely to exclude any elements of moral or political controversy; they specialize in the local, the personal, and the practical.)
ISFJs are often unappreciated, at work, home, and play. Ironically, because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and unstinting, high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted--even take advantage of them. Admittedly, the problem is sometimes aggravated by the ISFJs themselves; for instance, they are notoriously bad at delegating ("If you want it done right, do it yourself"). And although they're hurt by being treated like doormats, they are often unwilling to toot their own horns about their accomplishments because they feel that although they deserve more credit than they're getting, it's somehow wrong to want any sort of reward for doing work (which is supposed to be a virtue in itself). (And as low-profile Is, their actions don't call attention to themselves as with charismatic Es.) Because of all of this, ISFJs are often overworked, and as a result may suffer from psychosomatic illnesses.
In the workplace, ISFJs are methodical and accurate workers, often with very good memories and unexpected analytic abilities; they are also good with people in small-group or one-on-one situations because of their patient and genuinely sympathetic approach to dealing with others. ISFJs make pleasant and reliable co-workers and exemplary employees, but tend to be harried and uncomfortable in supervisory roles. They are capable of forming strong loyalties, but these are personal rather than institutional loyalties; if someone they've bonded with in this way leaves the company, the ISFJ will leave with them, if given the option. Traditional careers for an ISFJ include: teaching, social work, most religious work, nursing, medicine (general practice only), clerical and and secretarial work of any kind, and some kinds of administrative careers.
While their work ethic is high on the ISFJ priority list, their families are the centers of their lives. ISFJs are extremely warm and demonstrative within the family circle--and often possessive of their loved ones, as well. When these include Es who want to socialize with the rest of the world, or self-contained ITs, the ISFJ must learn to adjust to these behaviors and not interpret them as rejection. Being SJs, they place a strong emphasis on conventional behavior (although, unlike STJs, they are usually as concerned with being "nice" as with strict propriety); if any of their nearest and dearest depart from the straight-and-narrow, it causes the ISFJ major embarrassment: the closer the relationship and the more public the act, the more intense the embarrassment (a fact which many of their teenage children take gleeful advantage of). Over time, however, ISFJs usually mellow, and learn to regard the culprits as harmless eccentrics :-). Needless to say, ISFJs take infinite trouble over meals, gifts, celebrations, etc., for their loved ones--although strong Js may tend to focus more on what the recipient should want rather than what they do want.
Like most Is, ISFJs have a few, close friends. They are extremely loyal to these, and are ready to provide emotional and practical support at a moment's notice. (However, like most Fs they hate confrontation; if you get into a fight, don't expect them to jump in after you. You can count on them, however, run and get the nearest authority figure.) {italics added} Unlike with EPs, the older the friendship is, the more an ISFJ will value it. One ISFJ trait that is easily misunderstood by those who haven't known them long is that they are often unable to either hide or articulate any distress they may be feeling. For instance, an ISFJ child may be reproved for "sulking," the actual cause of which is a combination of physical illness plus misguided "good manners." An adult ISFJ may drive a (later ashamed) friend or SO into a fit of temper over the ISFJ's unexplained moodiness, only afterwards to explain about a death in the family they "didn't want to burden anyone with." Those close to ISFJs should learn to watch for the warning signs in these situations and take the initiative themselves to uncover the problem.

I suppose I should post something...

I mean, after all, it has been a week.
A week without a single post.
So, I really should post something.
Anything.
But, we have a problem.
I can't think of anything.
So.
This is a post of nothing.
Seriously. Nothing.
No, I mean it.
There's nothing here.
This is a nothing post.
Look, I told you there was nothing here.
Nothing.
Nothing.
And yet...
You're still reading this.
*sigh*
I suppose I can't refuse such a dedicated audience.
So.
Shall I post a poem?
No?
All right.
I don't have anything new, anyway.
A story?
Yes?
No?
*sigh*
Fine. No story.
Well, then what do you want to hear about?
My life is a little boring right now.
No epiphanies.
No stunning revelations.
Just...
Nothing.
Told you this was a nothing post.
But I suppose I should make an effort.
So.
Here's a dialogue I wrote about a year or two ago.
That should hold this blog for a while.

“One day, things will be better.”
Get a hold of yourself, girl. Life is not a fairy tale.
“I never said it was. I’m being optimistic.”
Optimistic, my left eyebrow. You’re denying reality.
“Reality is subjective.”
Aye. To those who wish to ignore it and refuse to believe it exists. Welcome to the real world, sweetheart.
“You’re cliché.”
And you’re delusional.
“Is it delusional to believe the best?”
It is when you’ve been confronted with the worst.
“If I’ve seen the worst, it’s not so bad. There is still hope.”
Hope is a lie fabricated for the foolish.
“Better to believe a lie than to live in despair.”
When that happens, death is preferable.
“Death is the coward’s way. It takes bravery to live.”
Bravery, more often than not, is foolishness combined with ignorance.
“Ignorance can be knowledge in its own right.”
You speak nonsense.
“Fluently. It is my right.”
A right not given to you.
“As if you have waited patiently for your claimed rights to be freely offered.”
It is a conqueror’s world.
“Indeed. And the conquerors are inevitably conquered themselves.”
A world of circles and cycles, truly. Circles and cycles that can be broken.
“It will take one stronger than you to break them.”
As it will take one stronger than you to prevent me from trying and succeeding.
“Now who’s delusional?”

*sigh*

Well....
It's been, what, two years? since I've started this blog.
And it pains me to say that it's over.
I just don't have time for it anymore.
School, work, church...
It's too bad, really.
It was fun while it lasted.
Hope you all have a day.
One more thing...
